Posters

I don't often post my school projects on here, but I just thought I would put up this one since it kind of relates to my art. The assignment was to create a suite of 3 posters which can only have 3 colors + 1 stock. Here's what I came up with:

Can you identify these three characters?

Also, March 1st I have something special planned for my blog. Please come back then and take a look :)

Archer ... and a Hamburger

I felt like making a bit of fan art of one of the most awesome anime characters ever, Archer from Fate/Stay Night.
-
So... why the hamburger?? It's a bit of an inside-joke, but easily explained. My sister and I were watching Fate/Stay Night in Japanese with subs one day and my mom, listening in, asked "Did that guy just say 'Gimme a hamburger?'" And really, the Japanese does sound like that! >w< So now we've got this inside joke about Archer having a love for hamburgers... Ah, good times.

Putting Things Into Perspective

I was drawing away the other day when I came up with a rough drawing I was pretty fond of:
A fun drawing of a dynamic between a male and a female character with expressive poses...just the sort of thing I like. But something was not quite exciting enough about it... I felt like it needed something more.
-
And so, I changed the perspective!
Perspective seems to be a good way to take a drawing and make it interesting. I think I'm going to work with it more in the future.

Cepholin

For awhile I've been concentrating on improving at two things: drawing more realistic poses, and drawing MALES. Because if you haven't noticed, I'm not that good at them...
-
This most recent work of mine is a good example of my practicing both. Here is pictured one of my favorite male characters from a novel I wrote in 2007, Heartwish, which I return to about once a year.
A brief bio of Cepholin:
In an era where two very different races attempt to sustain an unstable truce, a pair of twins are born which have blood of both races: human and Rhe'nyk. Cepholin, one of the two half-Rhe'nyk twins, takes advantage of his unique position by riling both races into war with one another, intending to rise to power amidst the fighting. However, there is one person set upon stopping him: a Rhe'nyk woman raised by humans named Kani, who once was very close to Cepholin until he put his selfish desires above his feelings for her. What follows is a showdown in which one side plays on racial tension while the other attempts to reconcile the two races.
-
Out of all my novels, Heartwish undoubtedly has the most complex plot - it is also the longest at a whopping 240,000 words. Since I wrote it in 2007, the writing itself is definately is not as refined as it could be.... nonetheless I find myself continuing to return to it simply because I still love the characters >w<

POLL: One-Wing's Color Scheme

Notice something new??
-
That's right, One-Wing's Gallery now features a poll! If you haven't noticed yet, right on the sidebar along with the blog archive and info about me, there's a spot where you can answer a question. The question is: What color scheme do you like best on One-Wing?
-
I had quite a bit of fun playing around with different color schemes for my mascot/muse. Each took careful thought and consideration, and in the end, I think each of them have a certain appeal.
-
But now I turn to you, my blog visitors... which one do you prefer? Here are your 6 options:

One-Wing's Original Color Scheme (Purple/Pink/Blue)

"Dark Rose" One-Wing (black/red)

"Prismatic" One-Wing (Cyan/Yellow/Magenta/Black) (Hehe, guess where I got those colors...)

"Elegant Wish" One-Wing (Maroon/Purple)

"Graceful Melody" One-Wing (Teal/Orange)"Shining Angel" One-Wing (white/gold)
-
Again, the poll is right over there ----->
Thank you so much for taking the time to vote! ^.^

One-Wing 2010

It's about time I made another drawing of this site's mascot.
How does she look? I think she turned out quite alright, myself.
-
A side note: People have been asking me, 'Why does she have just one wing?' I know I answered this in my very first post here, but since then, I've thought of a better answer.
-
So why just one wing for my character mascot? It is because, firstly, I realize that I am a flawed human being: no matter what, my art will never be as good as I want it to be. I will never be able to recreate the image I see in my mind with 100% accuracy. And so, just like a bird with just one wing, I cannot ascend by my efforts alone.
-
However, I'm not alone. I have the people who take the time to look at my art and give comments, critique, etc - this is of utmost importance to me. (Thank you. :)) I also have the guidance of my Master, Lord Jesus, who enabled me to create all these things, and it is for His glory that I make them. These things serve as my second, albeit invisible, wing, and provide flight for me.
-
Thank you for taking the time to read my explanation. If you haven't already done so, please take a look at the post that accompanies this one and vote on which color scheme you like best on One-Wing. :)

**Special Feature** The Story of an Image: From Conceptualization to Completion

Once upon a time, I had an idea.
-
About a year ago, I was considering the unique dynamic between a pair of characters who absolutely hate one another...and yet are irrepressibly drawn to one another at the same time. You know what I'm talking about - those characters that are "grr" one moment and then holding each other the next. I'm sure everyone knows a pair of characters (or real people!) that fit this description. ;) Anyhow, I decided to attempt to depict this. I failed.
-
Time and time again I found myself coming back to this idea, though. I could see it in my head, but if only I could get it down...
-
Then, finally, I drew this.
It was exactly what I was going for. The pose was dynamic and fluid, and the facial expressions showed ferocity while their proximity to one another communicated their undeniable attraction to one another.
-
Now to make them a little less naked.
As you might have guessed, these two are very specific characters of mine, and I've dressed them as such. However, I absolutely can't tell you who they are. It's a major spoiler of one of my novels... >w< But now that I've got everything penciled out as I want it, it's time to move on to inking:
And here it is, all cleaned up and ready for color.
Since the "opposites attract" dynamic is oh-so-much-fun to play with, why not dress one character entirely in white while the other in black? But it's not quite done yet. One more step to go - shading!
And there you have it - the finished image. "I don't know if I want to kiss you...or kill you." That's what they look like they're saying, to me. Hehe, as you can tell, it was a lot of work but I really enjoyed it anyhow - especially since it is the completion of an idea that I've been carrying with me for suuuch a long time. :)
-
You haven't seen the last of this pose, either. I know quite a few other characters that have the same love/hate dynamic going on, and I think I might see how they look drawn in this pose! And if anyone would like to suggest to me a pair of characters to draw in this pose, drop me a comment. I will more than likely go for it - maybe I'll even make a series.
-
That's all for now, but you know I'll post again soon ^.^

Artbook Stuff...

I'm in the process of developing some very neat stuff ... But that's not done yet so I thought I'd just post my recent works for my character artbook. A few turnarounds and concept sketches...nothing in color. But you still might like to give them a look. :)

I promise you in just a few days I will post something very neat. :3
